Fun & Easy Games to Learn for Little Kids 1 to 5

Little kids aged 1 to 5 enjoy playing games as much as older kids. However, some games have too many rules for the little ones to understand. Next time you are planning a gathering for little kids, consider a few fun games that they can understand and use to learn. Awarding small participation prizes like stickers and candy will keep them ready for the next easy game. Games teach the young children how to communicate and socialize.
  1. Ball Roll

    • Have the little ones sit in a circle on the floor with their legs spread apart. Give them a ball and have them roll it from player to player. Tell them to count to 10 or say their ABCs while rolling the ball to one another. For children age 3 to 5, have them stand up in the circle with their feet spread apart. Tell them to press their feet up against the players' feet next to them. They must bend over and try to roll the ball through another player's spread legs. The other players must bend over and try to stop the ball before it goes through their legs. The object is to make it through a player's legs before he can stop the ball. You can play for fun or eliminate players who have the ball go through their legs. The last four players standing win the game.

    Toss Games

    • Spread a white sheet on the ground and scatter candy on the sheet. Mark a line 5 feet away from the sheet. Give each player a ring, such as an embroidery hoop, to try to toss on the sheet. Each player has three tries to ring some candy. Any candy the hoop lands on, the player can keep. You can also paint dots on the sheet and have the little ones try to toss pennies on the dots to earn prizes. Tell the children they must count aloud to everyone the pieces of candy they win.

    Water Balloons

    • Inflate several water balloons and place them in a bucket. Let the younger children toss and play with the water balloons to get wet. The 3 to 5-year-olds can see who can toss the water balloon the farthest. Mark a line and have all the children grab a water balloon. Have an adult mark where each balloon lands. The player who tosses the balloon the farthest from the line wins the game.

    Blocks

    • Young children enjoy playing with blocks. Create a large play area with several boxes or bags of blocks for them to play with. For the little ones, make sure the blocks are not small enough to cause a choking hazard. Have a contest to see who can build the tallest tower in one minute or in five minutes. Toddlers can also play a toss game with blocks. Place several pails on the ground and have the toddlers try to toss the blocks in the pails.
