Kids' Mystery Game Ideas

Kids are by nature playful and adventurous. They always want to seek new play activities that will satiate their need for adventure. However, existing games passed down from generation to generation become too redundant and, at some point, boring. The trend these days is to let children play the contemporary games. The most famous of these contemporary games are kids' mystery games.
  1. Mystery Games

    • A mystery game for kids mostly involves a problem that needs to be solved. Before playing the game, each player usually assumes a character, like a detective, felon, stock character and hosts. All players then embark on an "imaginary" quest to unravel clues that lead them to the solution of the mystery. In the course of each journey, most mystery games provide for "side quests" -- like a "mini game" everyone plays to earn a reward. Some good examples of mystery games that have side quests are from Mysteries on the Net: The Sticky Case of Chuckles the Clown, The Hair-Raising Case of Rapunzel's Green Tresses and The Strange Case of the Disappearing Presents, to name a few.

Deciding on a Good Mystery Game

    • It is quite easy to come up with a great mystery game, especially for kids. For starters, make sure that your mystery game idea contains a general problem (the plot). The main problem of your mystery game could be a murder crime where the objective is to catch the culprit; theft where you should point out the thief; or a treasure hunt where the booty must be located. After coming up with the plot, create a situation and sets of clues that would lead to their destination. Make sure that your mystery game is challenging, but not too hard. To ensure participation, try giving out incentives!

    Making Mystery Games Safe

    • Taking into account the active nature of most mystery games, make sure you take steps that will make your idea a lot more efficient and safer. To do so, make sure your space is free of unnecessary clutter and obstacles like rocks, pits or uneven surfaces that may cause accidents. At times, some participants may find themselves fighting because of a certain thing. So try to be fair and clear in making your rules. Finally, make sure that you are assisted by other adults because kids may tend to get rowdy at times, especially when they are overexcited.

    Carefully Evaluate Ideas

    • Instant gratification is nearly always impossible; and if it is possible, it tends to give undesirable results. This is true with kids' mystery games. Always try to seek advice from other adults when formulating a game. They can give you their input and ideas on improving your game, and help you eliminate any problems that may arise during the game.
