Sudoku
Sudoku was invented in the U.S. by a retired architect in 1979. Sudoku is a mathematical brain buster game that can be played by children or adults. In a Sudoku game, nine 3 x 3 box grids must be solved by filling in each box with the numbers 1 through 9. However, a single row or column cannot contain two of the same numbers.
Rubik's Cube
Rubik's Cube is a mechanical brain buster. This is a six-sided box that contains nine squares on each side. Each row of squares can be shifted either horizontally or vertically. The colors of the boxes are red, green, blue, white, yellow and orange. The player must align the Rubik's Cube so that every side of the box contains squares of the same color.
Jigsaw
A jigsaw puzzle is a visual brain buster. Jigsaw puzzles are actually pictures that are composed of smaller pieces. To solve the puzzle, the pieces must connect and form the larger picture. A jigsaw puzzle can be composed of many small pieces or a fewer number of larger pieces. Images on jigsaw puzzles can be maps, which can help young people memorize geographical locations.
Crossword
Crosswords are a common type of brain buster that emphasize vocabulary. Crosswords are made up of lines of empty boxes. Crossword puzzles provide a list of clues to help the player fill in the correct letters in the empty boxes to make up complete words. The player can also use clues from the letters in the filled-in boxes to form words. Crosswords can be purchased at bookstores and are commonly found in newspapers.
