What Is Bakugan?
Bakugan is short for "Bakugan Battle Brawlers," which is an anime and a table-top game created by TMS entertainment and Sega Toys. The show is the center of the Bakugan universe and sets the stage for the action of the game. In the show, Bakugan are powerful warrior creatures which come from the planets of Vestroia, Neathian and Gundalia in another dimension. A powerful Bakugan named Naga attempts to gain more power and puts the universe at risk doing so, and in the process, a hole is ripped between dimensions. Cards containing miniature versions of Bakugan fall to Earth, where they are acquired by six children. The children use the cards to battle with their Bakugan in games of strategy and skill, through which they attempt to defeat Naga and save the universe.
What Is the Bakugan Game?
The real-life Bakugan game is based on the game in the show in which Bakugan battle each other atop special cards. Play of the game involves laying heavy, metal "gate cards" between two players and attempting to roll Bakugan onto the cards. Bakugan in the game start as spheres and, through the use of magnets, pop open in a manner similar to Transformers when they are rolled onto the metal cards. The card the Bakugan have rolled onto is then flipped, and the numbers on it are compared to the Bakugan. A winner is determined by adding the number on the inside of the Bakugan, called the G-Power, to its corresponding number on the gate card, following all instructions on the card. Each Bakugan is one of six types, or attributes, which are represented on each gate card. Whoever has the highest number is usually the winner.
Bakugan Traps in the Anime
Bakugan Traps are a special kind of Bakugan that were introduced in the New Vestroia Bakugan series. Bakugan Traps do not speak like other Bakugan can, and they do not have a spherical shape when they are closed. Instead, Bakugan Traps take other geometric shapes, such as pyramids, cylinders and cubes. In the anime, Bakugan Traps fight like other Bakugan, with the only difference being that they are used as backup.
Bakugan Traps in the Game
Bakugan Traps in the game differ from the anime and add a new dimension to the game. Instead of having a G-Power number like the traditional spherical Bakugan, Bakugan Traps have at least one attribute symbol hidden inside them that is revealed when they are set onto a gate card. Traps are played in conjunction with an ongoing battle and are used to change the attribute of the Bakugan in the battle. Traps can only be played with Bakugan that have the same starting attribute as the Trap, but once it is played, it can change the attribute of the Bakugan to any of the attributes the Trap has hidden within it.
