Jump It
Jumping rope is a timeless summer activity, and using the water from the hose in the same manner is even more fun and helps beat the heat. Swing the hose around as you would a jump rope and leap through, over or under the spray.
Run Away
Once the water starts flowing, you better get going. Holding a thumb over the end of the hose to increase the power of the stream and spray while everyone else tries to escape the wetness by making to the designated safe spot, or by just out running the water.
Rock and Roll
Without using real rocks, take a ball, blow up toy or other soft item that can get wet and set them up around the yard. Similar to bases in baseball, but you do not have to stop at four. One person controls the hose, taking aim at the others as they try to make it to the rocks. Players get to the rocks by rolling on the ground to stay under the water or take their chances trying to dodge it, and the first one to touch all the rocks becomes the hose master. This one can get muddy, but that is half of the fun and you have a hose right there to clean off before you go inside.
You Are It
Tag is as old as games themselves. It can be played a multitude of ways and when you include the hose it adds that much more excitement. Standard rules would make the first person you spray it, but the freeze-tag version would make the player you spray stop in their tracks. Keeping it fair is important, so no soaking one player while the others get away.
