Memory Games
Place three or four items on a tray and show them to the toddlers. Tell them to take a good look at the items. Cover the items with a large rag and lift one item up under the rag so they cannot see it. Tell the toddlers to guess what item is missing. Award small prizes for each correct answer, and make sure everyone has a turn to answer. For another memory game, have one toddler leave the room. While he is outside, hide another player. Bring the toddler back in from outside the room and guess which person is missing.
Ball Games
Use 10 plastic bowling pins to create a pyramid on the ground. If you do not have bowling pins, you can use empty plastic soda bottles. Have the toddlers stand about 5 feet from the bowling pins and take turns rolling a ball to try to knock down the pins. Another ball game the young ones can play is ball toss. Place small, medium and large buckets next to each other on the ground. Have the toddlers try to toss balls into the buckets.
Treasure Hunt Games
Fill a plastic swimming pool with play sand and several plastic toy prizes. You can find bags of plastic toy piñata prizes at many party supply stores and retail stores. Let the toddlers dig through the sand and find a couple of prizes. For another treasure hunt game, hide the plastic toy prizes all over the play area. Give each toddler a small plastic bag. The toddlers can keep all of the prizes they find on the treasure hunt.
Painting Games
For a nonmessy painting game, give the toddlers a large bucket of water and several paintbrushes. They can "paint" a concrete driveway, the side of the house or anything that can get wet with water. Try a colorful game of bubble painting by mixing a couple of drops of food coloring with bubble solution. Have the toddlers blow the bubbles onto white sheets of paper. When the bubbles pop, it will leave a colorful burst. Make sure the children wear old clothes, as the food coloring can stain.
