Dress Up and Driving Games for Kids

Dress-up and driving games are excellent ways to entertain kids. They help children develop imagination. Options are endless, and parents can often find items around the house, making a dress-up game even more fun. Driving games are a great way to entertain kids both at home using toys or on road trips in the car.
  1. Role Playing

    • Role-playing allows kids to pretend to be anyone one they choose. To play, place dress up items in a pile. Accessories such as purses, belts, hats and items that coordinate with themed outfits can also be placed in the pile. Kids can choose whichever items they like. They can act out and pretend to be whatever they chose. Others can guess whom they are pretending to be.

    Dress-Up Scavenger Hunt

    • Scavenger hunts are fun for kids of all ages. Pick various items that coordinate with dress up-choices to play this game. For example, for a police officer gather accessories that may include a badge, handcuffs and whistle. Write the various dress-up theme choices on a slip of paper. Include a list of all items that coordinate with each theme to make sure kids find them all. Hide the items throughout the play area. Allow the kids to choose a slip of paper describing a dress-up theme. Have the kids hunt for each item listed. They can put on each item they find. The winner is the child who completes her dress-up outfit first.

    Road Trip Games

    • The entire family can enjoy playing a game of I Spy or License Plate Bingo.

License plate bingo is easier for older children who know the alphabet. Simply look at the license plates of passing cars. Using the alphabet, have each player identify a car whose license plate has the next letter of the alphabet. The player who finds the most letters wins.

I spy can be played by kids of all ages. It helps teach kids identify different colors, letters, numbers and objects. Players can choose to identify colors, letters, numbers, car models, or objects seen inside or outside the car. To play, one player says I spy and then describes an object of their choice for others to guess. Take turns guessing until the item is figured out. Whoever guesses the correct object goes next and the winner is whoever guesses the most correct answers.

    Obstacle Courses and Pretend Cities

    • An obstacle course is a great game for kids to play using either ride-on toys or other cars. Use plastic cones, blocks or jump ropes to mark off a course for the kids to drive. Place toys or other objects in various places throughout the course for obstacles. Create an appropriately sized obstacle course for the cars. Smaller courses should be used for little cars such as die cast cars. Colored papers and boxes can be used to create a pretend city for kids to play in. Roadways can be made out of the paper, and the boxes can be decorated to look like city buildings or neighborhood homes.
