Wildlife Games for Kids

Teaching kids about wildlife is an exciting subject that allows them to explore unique animals. To make the most out of your lessons, use a curriculum that allows for game play. Games are an effective teaching tool to get kids engaged in the wildlife lesson while allowing them to enjoy their play time.
  1. Who Am I?

    • Who Am I? is a guessing game that requires kids to identify the wildlife animal based on sounds that you play or clues that you give. The sound of a "roar," for instance, comes from a lion, which is what kids would guess if you were to play a roar sound on a tape or make the sound verbally. If you read clues to your kids, you might say, "I have stripes and long tail. Who am I?" The answer is a zebra. Go through a variety of animals to get your kids familiar with identifying wildlife animals.

    Word Games

    • Word games are games that kids complete individually. After your lesson on wildlife, hand out a worksheet with word games on it that are relative to wildlife. For instance, you may have a crossword puzzle full of clues about the animals or a word search with words like elephant, giraffe, lion and antelope. Kids have to solve the puzzles using the clues, as well as what they learned on wildlife.

    Wildlife Bingo

    • If you have two or more kids, host a wildlife bingo game. Prepare bingo cards with the names of wildlife animals on them. Each kid gets his own bingo card. As you call out the animal names, the kids have to put tokens over the name of the animal on the card. The player who gets a whole column of tokens in a row first wins the game.

    Chain Reaction

    • If computers are accessible to you and the kids, have the kids play Internet-based wildlife games. Chain Reaction is an example of a game that requires kids to put the wildlife in order of the food chain. This also helps children understand why each animal or organism in the food chain is important to the survival of his predator.
