Tissue Box Car Race
Part of the fun of this game is making the race cars. Get some empty tissue boxes and allow preschoolers to paint and color their "cars" as they see fit. Use wooden skewer sticks to make two axles for each car and use empty bobbins as wheels. Help children attach these or do it for them. Set up a race course in the classroom or at home. All you need is a flat stretch of floor with a checkered flag. Make a starting line and allow children to compete in one-on-one face-offs. Each child gets one push from behind the starting line. Whichever car goes the farthest wins the round.
Racing Around the Room
Let children pretend to be race cars and get some exercise. Cut out three large circles of construction paper: one red, one yellow and one green. Hold up the green circle and encourage children to "drive" around the room in a counterclockwise circle making the loudest race car noises they can. When you hold up the yellow circle children must slow down. When you hold up the red circle they must stop. Play until they get tired.
Little Champs
Little Champs is an online car racing game for kids (shegame.com). Players compete in a car race with five other competitors. They use the keyboard to accelerate and to turn. Players collect points by getting to checkpoints and by finishing ahead of the other competitors. Cartoon-style graphics, great sound effects and ease of play make it an exciting race car game for preschoolers.
Roary the Racing Car
Roary the Racing Car is an online game based on the kids' television program of the same name (roarytheracingcar.com). The game gives players an overview of a racetrack with Roary alone on the course. Players use the keyboard to accelerate and turn to make it all the way around the track. The advantage of this game is that children can play it alone without having to compete against the computer. Instead, they can practice going around the track as much as they like.
