How to Read a Metric Ruler in FunBrain

FunBrain is a free, online children's learning site that provides educational and entertaining games and lessons. If your child is having trouble mastering measuring with a metric ruler, let him practice measuring and learn about the characteristics of a metric ruler through FunBrain's ruler game.

Instructions

      Go to FunBrain's free ruler game website page at http://www.funbrain.com/measure/.

      Locate the three red links that are labeled "Easy Centimeters," "Medium Centimeters," and "Hard Centimeters." A metric ruler has centimeters as its main measurement and millimeters for its incremental measurements. Your child can play each level as he progresses in his understanding of the metric ruler.

      Click on the "Easy Centimeters" link. You will be directed to a new screen, where you will see a brown ruler on the top of the screen. You also will see a thick red line above the ruler. The line will stop at a numeral on the ruler. Your child can identify which number that is, and click on the correct answer from the choices provided below the ruler.

      Repeat "Step 3" until you have completed the game. Each time you click on an answer, FunBrain will move to the next question. You will see a new ruler and a new set of answer choices. FunBrain also will tell you if you got the previous question correct by with a printed "Right!" or wrong with a printed "Oops!"

      Move to the next levels using this same technique.
