Indoor Games for Kids at Home

Most children love to be outside running around, so when the weather isn't cooperating, kids feel like they are stuck inside. Although you could plant them in front of the television, your kids will likely get bored after watching a few DVDs. Teach your children that being indoors doesn't mean it;s going to be a boring day, but one full of fun indoor games.
  1. Cup Catch Game

    • The cup catch game will keep kids entertained while improving their hand-eye coordination. Give each child a large plastic or paper cup. Crush aluminum foil into a small ball. Have everyone line up in a circle. The object is to toss and catch the foil ball with the cup to the person standing on the opposite side of the circle. If you have a large group of kids, use two balls at once.

    Relay Clothing Game

    • Nothing makes kids giggle faster than racing the clock and their friends. Pile at least 10 to 15 items of clothing in a cardboard box for each team. Use any kind of clothing such as pants, skirts, shirts, blouse and shorts. Place the box on the other side of the room. Designate a starting point for the teams. When you say "Go," the first child on the team runs to the clothing box. Instruct the child to put on all of the clothing in the box over his own clothing. Once he's dressed, he runs back to the starting point and removes the extra clothes. Once he's undressed, the next player puts the clothes on and runs to the box where he removes the clothing. The game continues until the last child returns to his team in his own clothes.

    Crabstyle Volleyball

    • A game that helps get rid of a child's pent-up energy is crab volleyball. Tie a piece of yarn across the play area to divide the room. Separate the kids into teams and instruct them to position their bodies crab style. Draw straws to see which team goes first. Toss a balloon or a large foam ball to the serving team. The ball goes back and forth between the teams until it drops to the floor. Once the ball drops, the opponents receive a point and get to serve the ball. The first team that scores the set amount of points wins.

    Blind Penny Hunt

    • Clear a play area where kids can crawl around and feel with their hands without knocking fragile items over. Make sure any object that could injure a child is removed from the room. Blindfold the kids and spread a bunch of pennies around the room. Instruct the kids to crawl around the floor and feel for pennies. Give each child a small paper bag to place his pennies in. Tell the kids they have to pick up as many pennies as they can within 10 minutes. The winner of the game is the child who has the most pennies at the end.
