Fun Christian Games for Preschoolers

Teaching Sunday School to preschoolers can be a challenge; 3- to 5-year-olds don't have a very long attention span, so it is best to keep Bible lessons short. The lessons can then be reiterated through crafts, activities and games that are sure to entice the children and keep them learning. When it comes to Christian preschool games, there are several choices.
  1. Sunday School Bingo

    • Create bingo cards to play a game of Sunday School Bingo. Print custom bingo cards from DTLK's website. Choose the 3-by-3 layout, which is easier for preschool children. Select either the pre-made Bible bingo cards, or the blank cards if you prefer to make your own design to go along with your lesson. There is an option to add vocabulary to the cards, but it is best to stick with pictures for the preschoolers. Once you print out your cards, hand them out to the children. Give each child a set of Bible stickers to place on the card when you call out a matching picture. The child who first gets three across -- up and down or diagonally -- wins.

    Musical Crowns

    • This game can be played to reinforce any lessons on the love of Jesus. Before the game, have the preschoolers each make a crown. If you don't have time, you can make them ahead of time at home, or ask Burger King for a donation of their children's crowns. Line up enough chairs for all of the children minus one. Play your favorite Sunday School song, but stop it abruptly when the children least expect. At this time the children must race to get a chair. The child who ends up without a chair can then place the crown he made on his head. Discuss one reason why Jesus loves that child. Continue, taking away another chair each round. Take time to discuss why each child is precious to Jesus.

    Egg Race Game

    • Utilize the egg race game when teaching Easter lessons on Jesus' resurrection. Gather the children together and have them form a circle on the floor. Place a basket of candy- and treat-filled Easter eggs on a nearby desk. Give one student an empty plastic egg, and instruct the children to begin passing the egg clockwise when the music starts. When the music stops, the child holding the egg must stand up and shout "Jesus is Risen." The other children can then shout "Amen." The student who has the plastic egg is out, and as a consolation prize, she can select first from the prize eggs on the desk. Continue repeating rounds until all of the children have ended up with the plastic egg and gotten their prize eggs from the basket.

    Down Goes Goliath

    • Draw a large picture of Goliath on a piece of poster board before class. Tape the Goliath poster on the Sunday School room wall, making sure it is set at the height of the preschoolers. Instruct the students to cut a circle out of gray construction paper (David's rock). Help each student write his name on the rock. Line the students up and blindfold them one at a time. Place a piece of double-sided tape on the back of each rock and give the students a chance to place the rock on the poster. The goal is to get the rock right in between Goliath's eyes. The child who comes closest wins.
