Thanksgiving Coloring Games for Kids

Thanksgiving offers the chance to teach children about an important American holiday. It also provides the opportunity to teach kids about history as well as important messages about tolerance and thankfulness. Whether you are a teacher looking for fun activities to complement your lessons or a parent or relative hoping to keep kids occupied during the busy holiday, a printer and a box of crayons will provide you with fun activities for kids.
  1. Bingo

    • DLTK offers a printable Thanksgiving-themed bingo game that will help reinforce Thanksgiving themes with pictures of pilgrims, Native Americans, turkeys and other traditional Thanksgiving imagery (dltk-cards.com). When printed in black and white, a bingo board game can be colored in by the kids before being cut out and used to play games. Choose the card dimensions. Eight-image, 16-image and 24-image bingo cards are available. Select the Thanksgiving theme under the "Holidays" section. Be sure to choose the black-and-white printing option so the kids can color the game themselves.

    Dominoes

    • Dominoes are a simple game that can help children learn pattern-recognition skills. Printable Thanksgiving-themed dominoes available from DLTK will also help reinforce the themes learned in lessons about the holiday. In this version of the game the numbered dots are replaced with pictures of pilgrims, Native Americans, cornucopias and turkeys. If the black-and-white printing option is chosen, children can color the dominoes before they cut out and play with them. For added durability, the cut-out dominoes can be attached to card stock paper or laminated.

    Activity Placemat

    • Kids can get restless when they are waiting for a meal. A printable activity place mat available from Disney Family Fun (familyfun.go.com) will help them to pass the time. Kids can play "spot the difference" with different Thanksgiving meals, solve the turkey maze and color a Thanksgiving picture. When kids finish all these activities, have them turn over the place mat to the blank side and ask them to draw a picture of something they are thankful for.

    Hidden-Picture Puzzles

    • Hidden-picture puzzles present a fun challenge for kids to complete. Ed Helper offers some Thanksgiving-themed hidden-picture puzzles for kids (edhelper.com). Printable hidden-picture puzzles offer an advantage of full-color puzzles found in books, as kids can spend some time doing coloring as well. Have kids circle or color in the hidden objects in these pictures of Thanksgiving meals. Then, if they like, they can color in the whole picture.
