Awesome & Fun Games for Kids

Playing a game is one of the best ways to control a large group of kids. It is sure to get everyone moving and on their feet. However, choosing the right game is important. Consider your group size and the age of your players, but regardless of what you choose, each of these games should be awesome and fun.
  1. Captain Midnight

    • Choose one person from the group to be the captain. This person stands by himself at one end of the playing area with his back to the group. The rest of the group stands together at the opposite side of the playing area. At once, the group yells to the captain, "What time is it, Captain Midnight?" The captain then responds with a time of day, such as "It is eight o'clock." All the kids in the group then take eight steps towards the captain, one step for each hour Captain Midnight says it is. If the captain responds saying "It's midnight" then all the kids in the group must run back to their starting line at their end of the playing area before being tagged by the captain, who can now turn around and try to tag the rest of the kids in the group. If the captain tags people, they become his helpers and must now take their place beside him on his side of the playing area and help him tag other players. The object of the game is to be the last person tagged.

    Guard the Castle

    • Have your kids stand in a circle. Place a small cone in the center of the circle; this cone is your castle. Assign one kid from the circle to guard the cone. The guard stands in the center of the circle and straddles the cone. The guard must protect the cone from being knocked over. Give the kids in the circle one inflatable or soft ball, such as a gator ball. The kids in the circle must try to use teamwork to known over the cone. They pass the ball around the circle until someone has a good shot at the cone. If someone from the circle feels they have a shot at the cone, he can throw the ball at the cone in an attempt to knock it over. If the thrower succeeds, he switches places with the person in the middle and becomes the new guard while the guard takes a place in the circle.

    Cross Over Dodge Ball

    • This is a variant of the ever-popular, classic dodge ball. Just as in dodge ball, divide your group into two equal teams. Place each team on opposite sides of the playing area. Place a line of dodge balls on the halfway mark of the playing area. When the game starts, players from each team try to get a dodge ball and hit the players from the opposite team. Once a player is hit, he must cross over and join the other team. The game continues until one team has been eliminated completely.

    Cut the Cake

    • This is a fun game to play with young kids. It is similar to "Duck, Duck, Goose." Kids sit on the floor in a circle. One kid is chosen to be the "cutter." The cutter walks around the outside of the circle. At some point, the cutter "cuts" the cake by sticking one arm in between two sitting players. The two sitting players then jump up and race around the circle in opposite directions; the first one that makes it back rejoins the circle along with the cutter. The remaining player is now the new cutter and the game continues.
