How to Create Children's Memory Games

The game of memory has dual purposes --- not only does it provide children with hours of entertainment, it also helps develop the area of the brain responsible for storing and retrieving information. The game of memory helps children exercise their ability to remember facts, which will increase their learning in other subjects. Make your own memory games using recycled bottle caps, with different pictures underneath each cap.

Instructions

    • 1

Collect an even amount of bottle caps from empty soda bottles, juice containers or water bottles. Rinse them in hot water to remove any residue and store them until you have collected at about 20 caps.

    • 2

Cut out symbols and pictures from magazines, comics, or flyers; cut out two of the same object. To cut out the objects, place a cap over top of the symbol and trace around it.

    • 3

Apply a thin layer of white glue to the back of your two matching pictures and insert them into the bottom of your plastic caps. To have a full set of caps, you must have two matching pictures for each set.

    • 4

Press the pictures into the bottom of each cap to secure them and set them aside to dry before playing.
