Trivia Game
Games that help children learn will keep a child's mind occupied and help him to feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the game. Creating a trivia game can help a child learn about a given topic. Choose a topic that is familiar to you so that it is easy to create questions for the child to answer. When the child answers the questions correctly, give him a treat. If there is more than one player, the player with the most treats after 20 minutes, wins the game.
Board Game
Candy Land is a board game that teaches patience and cooperation. The players select a character game piece, such as red, blue, green or yellow one. All players start at go. A player shuffles the deck of cards. The youngest player picks a card and moves her piece first. The card tells the player how many spaces to move her piece. For example, if a card is yellow, the player moves to the next yellow box. Occasional set backs occur, such as being stuck on a color for a while. The first player to make it to the end of the board wins.
Video Games
Children are fascinated by video games. In Rock Band, after the hip and crazy musical introduction, the players choose playing options. If a player is rocking solo, he chooses the solo option on the screen. If it is a multiplayer game, the players choose the multiplayer option. If playing solo, quick play, a player picks a song, and plays the instrument. If solo, world tour, one player chooses an existing band character, chooses a song, and plays it. If multiplayer, new tour, multiple players use design options to create new band playing characters, they choose a song and play it.
Outdoor Games
Duck-duck-goose is a good game to play if you are watching multiple children. All the children sit in a circle. One child walks around the circle touching each player as she says the word duck. When she touches a player and says the word goose, the child runs around the circle. The player chases her. If the child makes it to the player's spot before she is caught, the player becomes it. She starts the game again by walking around the circle, touching each player and saying duck, duck, duck, goose.
