Snowman Games for Kindergarten

Plan snowman games for your kindergarten class to add to your winter theme unit. Many children love the "jolly, happy soul" and games incorporating the snowman are sure to pique their interest. Games also help young children build social skills and give them a chance to make new friends. Awarding small prizes, such as snowman-themed stickers and pencils, to game winners can entice the children to try their hardest while playing the games.
  1. Snowman Decorating

    • Give each kindergartener two white, polystyrene, foam balls (a small and medium). Place several supplies on tables for the children to use to decorate their snowmen. Have them glue the two balls together to create a snowman and allow the glue to dry before decorating. Give them items, such as scrap fabric, glue, tape, markers, rhinestones, googly eyes, craft foam and glitter pens, to decorate the snowmen. You can take a sharp knife and cut the bottom off the snowman so he will stand up if you prefer. Award prizes to the best, funniest, silliest, scariest and craziest snowmen.

    Frosty's Musical Top Hat

    • Have the children sit in a circle and give one child a black top hat (similar to something Frosty would wear). Play the song, "Frosty the Snowman," and have the children pass the hat around the circle. Each child must put the hat on his head before passing it to the next player in line. When the music stops, the player with the hat is out of the game and must pretend she is melting away. The last player standing wins the game and a prize.

    Snowman Bowling

    • Print 10 pictures of snowmen and tape them on the front of empty two-liter bottles. Wrap five medium-size polystyrene balls with white electric tape (to make them heavier). Set the snowmen bowling pins (two-liter bottles) in a pyramid shape and mark a standing line about 10 feet away. Each child will roll five "snowballs" (polystyrene balls) at the pins to try to knock them down. Reset the pins after each roll. Keep record of each player's score and the player with the highest amount of points wins the game.

    Snowballs Relay Race

    • Mark a starting line and finish line about 10 feet away. Place a box of cotton balls on the finish line. Give each player a straw and place a sheet of black construction paper in front of each player at the starting line. When you say, "Race," the players must race to the box of "snowballs" (cotton balls) and suck one to the bottom of their straw. They have to go back to their paper and place the "snowball" on the paper. The object of the game is to be the first player to get three "snowballs" on the sheet of paper in a line that looks like a snowman. If a player drops his "snowball," he must pick it up using only his straw. The first player to have three "snowballs" on his paper wins the game.
