Games About Foxes for Kids

Foxes have been the inspiration for several kids' movies and books over the years, such as Roald Dahl's "Fantastic Mister Fox", and the animals make an appearance in a number of games, as well. While some of these games are suitable for play in a yard or park, others are played on video gaming systems. Some games, then, may require specific gaming consoles to be purchased first.
  1. Star Wing

    • This classic space game was developed by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and stars Fox McCloud, a galactic mercenary who you control. You must take part in a number of daring intergalactic missions, flying in a small space ship and battling the forces of the evil Andross. This title is known for featuring a bunch of animals that help the player out, such as Peppy Hare and Slippy Toad, each controlled by the computer. The game is suitable for players ages 7 and older.

    Lylat Wars

    • A follow-up to the popular "Star Wing" title, this game for the Nintendo 64 console again finds players controlling Fox McCloud, who pilots an Arwing space vessel. "Lylat Wars" adds new features to the series, including an opportunity to participate in multiplayer gaming with up to four players plugging their controllers into one console and a training option for inexperienced players. The game is suitable for players ages 8 and older.

What Time Is It, Mister Fox?

    • This game requires a group of kids ages 3 to 6. At the beginning of the game, you and the kids stand apart from each other. You will play the title character of Mister Fox. Every time you give a certain signal, the kids are allowed to ask you for the time. You give the time by describing a method of movement, such as crawling or skipping, which the kids must replicate to try and get as close to you as possible. You continue to signal and name movements until you finally declare it to be midnight. Then you chase the kids back to their starting point and the game starts again.

    Foxes &Hounds

    • This game is intended for a large group of kids between the ages of 4 and 8. Divide the players into trees, foxes and hounds. You need twice the number of trees as foxes, since each fox begins paired with two trees. You should also have a couple of hounds and two or three extra foxes. Trees link hands and stay still to recreate being a tree, while each fox hides in the trees by standing in between the pair. The hounds' job is to try to tag foxes. Foxes are safe as long as they're in a tree, but if another fox enters a tree, the resident must leave. If a fox is tagged, she becomes a hound and vice versa. After playing the game for a few minutes, swap around who plays the trees.
