Hi-Ho Cherry-O Directions

A classic children's game for more than 30 years, Hi Ho! Cherry-O is a simple and fun way to teach children how to count. Perfect for children between the ages of 3 and 6, Hi Ho! Cherry-O doesn't require any reading. Simply spin the wheel, and the image the spinner lands on shows you how many cherries to pick from the cherry tree. The object of the game is to be the first player to pick and fill your bucket with 10 cherries. But beware of the spilled bucket and the cherry-stealing dog and bird. Spin one of these and you'll lose two or all of your cherries.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up the game. Distribute a tree card, a bucket and 10 cherries to each player. Players place their 10 cherries on their tree cards. Hi Ho! Cherry-O comes with four tree cards, four buckets and 40 cherries.

Determine who goes first. According to the Hi Ho! Cherry-O game rules, the youngest player goes first, then play passes to the left.

    • 3

Spin the wheel and play according to your spin. If the spinner lands on any of the cherry pictures, pick the number of cherries shown in the picture from your cherry tree and place in your bucket. You can pick one to four cherries in one turn, depending on which cherry picture you land on. If the spinner lands on the bird or dog, take two cherries out of your bucket and place them back on the cherry tree. If you don't have any cherries in your bucket, do nothing. If the spinner lands on the spilled bucket, remove all the cherries from your bucket and place them back on your tree. If you have no cherries in your bucket, do nothing.

Win the game by being the first player to fill your bucket with 10 cherries, then call out "Hi Ho! Cherry-O!" to let the other players know your bucket is full.
