Spider Themed Games for Kids

Whether you are hosting a Halloween party or teaching your students about spiders, create a few games that relate to the eight-legged creatures. With a few supplies and a creative imagination, you can plan spider-themed games that can be a big success. Award prizes to all game winners to entice the kids to play along.
  1. Spider Web Prizes

    • Cut several pieces of yarn about 40 feet long and attach a slip of paper with a number to the end of each strand. Hide the paper in a drawer, under a table or under a chair. Take the strands of yarn and wrap them all around the classroom or party area. This will create a large spider web. Leave the ends of each piece of yarn out in the open so each kid can easily find one. Tell the children to follow their piece of yarn until they find the piece of paper. Each number corresponds with a prize the child wins. Have the prizes already numbered in a bag before you start the game.

    Beanbag Toss

    • Draw or print a large picture of a spider on a poster board and tape it to the bottom of a cardboard box. Cut the mouth of the spider out and lean it against the wall. Use markers to draw bug faces on beanbags. Make your own beanbags using socks, rubber bands and dry beans. Mark a standing line about 10 feet from the spider. Give each child five bug beanbags to try to toss in the spider's mouth. For each beanbag he makes in the spider's mouth, award him with a small prize.

    Exterminator

    • Play a game of exterminator on a hot summer day outside. Select one child to be "it" and give him a water bottle. Tell the children they are the spiders and they have to run from the exterminator. When you say, "Go," the exterminator has to try to squirt the "spiders." If he squirts a "spider," that player must fall to the ground with his arms and legs in the air (like a dead spider). The last player squirted by the exterminator is the exterminator for the next game.

    Spider Crawl Relay Race

    • Divide the players into two teams and have them line up at a starting line. Mark a finish line about 15 feet away. When you say, "Race," the first players in each team line must race to the finish line by crawling like a spider. To crawl like a spider, the children must place their hands and feet on the ground with their stomachs facing the ground. Another way they can spider crawl is by holding their ankles when running. After the children reach the finish line, they run back to tag the next teammate in line. The first team to complete the relay race wins.
