Day-Care Games for Girls

Anyone looking after girls in day care needs to have a few great games up her sleeves to keep them entertained. It is important to provide a selection of game types that will stimulate and develop different skills such as creativity, social interaction and physical activities. Thankfully there's a wealth of games that are simple to organize and great fun to play.
  1. Dress Up Trunk

    • Most girls love playing dress-up. Set aside a trunk with old clothes and props. Ask parents to donate these or find them in junk stores. Set a theme for the day, such as princesses, sports heroines or monsters. Draw the girls' names at random out of a bag (this is the fairest way, as the first girl to go to the trunk will get the best choice of clothes) so they can take turns to go and choose two or three props from the trunk to make a costume on that theme.

    Animal Who Are You

    • One girl is blindfolded and the rest of the girls stand round her in a circle. The "guesser" has to spin round a few times and and point when she stops and ask whom she's pointing at. The girl being pointed at should make an animal noise. The guesser then has to try and work out which of her classmates is making the noise. If she gets it right, they swap places. If she guesses wrong she must stay in the center and play again with someone else.

    Fashion Designers

    • Give each girl a plain white t-shirt and a selection of different fabric craft pens, sequins, ribbons, scraps of fabric and fabric craft glue, then set them a fashion challenge. Ask them to design and decorate a t-shirt on a certain theme. Adapt this to suit the girls' ages, but many ideas such as favorite animals, the initial of their name, nature or an occasion such as Valentine's Day or Thanksgiving will work well for girls of all ages.

    Superpower Dance and Movement Games

    • Encourage girls to get moving and expend energy with superpower dance and movement games. Put on a selection of energetic tunes and set the girls different superpower "tasks" they have to act out in time to the music. Get them jumping high pretending to catch stars, run around flapping their arms pretending they can fly like fairies, and slither on the ground, pretending they're mermaids looking for pearls under the sea -- all in time to the music.
