Fun Indoor Games to Play

Fun indoor games provide a physical and creative outlet for kids of all ages. When your kids are stuck indoors due to bad weather, create a few indoor games using your imagination and creativity. Games prevent boredom, keep your children out from in front of the television and help children stay physically active.
  1. Building Contests

    • Set a time limit for five minutes and give each player a bowl of blocks. Have everyone build the tallest tower they can in five minutes. After five minutes, the player with the tallest standing tower wins the game. Another building game to do indoors is a marshmallow-building contest. Give each player a bowl of miniature marshmallows and toothpicks. The player with the tallest tower after five minutes of building wins the game.

    Relay Races

    • Play a doughnut relay game indoors with wood craft sticks and donuts. Divide the players into two teams and have them stand in a single file line. Give the first player in each team line a doughnut. Have all the players put the craft sticks in their mouth. When you say, "Go," the first player in line must put the doughnut on the stick. He must pass it to the next player in line using only the stick. Players cannot use their hands and if anyone drops the doughnut, they must start over. The first team to get the dougnut all the way down their team line wins the game. Another indoor relay is the lemon game. Have two teams stand in line and give each team a lemon. The players must pass the lemon down their team line in between their chin and neck. The first team to get the lemon all the way down their line wins the game.

    Basketball Games

    • Setup an indoor "basketball goal" using an empty wastebasket. Mark a line about 10 feet from the basket and wad up several pieces of paper. See who can make the most baskets from the line. You can also scatter several buckets, pails and baskets on the ground. Use sticky notes to write point values on the items. Toss the paper from a line about 10 feet away and keep record of each player's score. The player who scores the most points out of 10 tosses wins the game.

    Balloon Games

    • Give each player two balloons and have him practice hitting the balloons in the air. Allow about two minutes for the players to practice. Then see who can keep both of their balloons in the air for the longest amount of time. If a balloon touches the ground at any time, that player is out of the game. Another game to play inside with balloons is the grab game. Scatter several inflated balloons all over the floor. Give the players three minutes to gather as many balloons as they can. The player holding the most balloons when the timer goes off wins the game.
