Puppets
There are many ways to explore sharing lessons with crafts that will be educational and understanding for young children. Use colorful character puppets to show the children the point in the lesson. For a verse such as Hebrews 13:16 which reads, "Don't forget to do good and share with others," make a small stage, use some colored, decorated socks as the puppets, and narrate a story that talks about doing good and sharing with others.
Puzzles
A simple game to teach children about sharing is to use puzzles. Pair the children and explain that the goal is to share by helping each other use their pieces to complete the puzzle. Choose a puzzle depicting a biblical image and pass out the puzzle pieces to the paired children. This can be done with any number of paired children, as long as there are enough puzzles. Once the children complete the puzzle, reward them with a certificate that has a Bible verse on it such as Hebrew 13:16, "Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God."
Bible Coloring Books
There are many Christian-based coloring books that have pages about sharing in them to color. To make coloring a game, ask each child to color a page, while only giving each child two to three crayons of different colors. For example, Todd has three crayons, blue, red and green. Rebecca has three crayons, yellow, black and purple, and Amanda has three crayons of peach, orange and gray. Each child who needs a different colored crayon can swap crayons with another child who is willing to share and use the other child's colored crayon and so forth, as long as each child keeps a total of three crayons. If the children color their page on sharing and actually share the crayons with no arguments, then reward them with a star sticker or some candy.
Stone Soup Activity
This fun game lesson is intended for toddlers, but it can also be used for young children as well. This is based on the "Stone Soup" story, wherein a whole village donated food to one large pot that fed the whole village. This theory can be done in a really fun game. Ask each child to pick their favorite vegetable to bring to church. The adults will bring small hot dogs and beef tips cut up and will also do all cooking. When the children come in, they are to give the adults the vegetables on the belief that all the needy people in the church are going to be fed. The adults make a big huge pot of vegetables and meat called the stone soup. Once the stone soup is ready, each child can help serve the soup to the church group in the kitchen. The reward in this game is that each child brought a vegetable to share, and they are proud of their accomplishments. Each child also can receive a sharing badge for a deed well done.
