Magic Tricks for Small Kids

Magic tricks are a great activity for young kids because they can help teach skills like memory, logic and science. This wholesome, family fun activity is perfect for children of all ages. Whether a child is just beginning with magic or has been up to some tricks for a while, there are plenty of magic tricks for kids of all skill levels.
  1. Mind-Reading Trick

    • Children can easily learn how to master the mind-reading card trick where they will stun their friends with knowing exactly what card they chose. By knowing the identity of one card, kids can learn the identity of every card. Have your child shuffle the deck of cards and then look at the bottom card, which will then be their "keycard." Then, allow your friend to choose any card and return it to the top of the deck. Have your friend take the bottom half of the deck, containing the keycard and place this stack on top of the other half of the deck. Then, you can simply look for the card that was on the bottom of the deck and the one next to it is the card that your friend chose.

    The Pepper Trick

    • The pepper trick is extremely fun and will help teach kids about principles that are important to science. Place a cup of water on a table and add pepper. Make sure your child puts soap on his finger, as this will help him make the pepper separate in the water. Have your child ask someone from the audience come up and try to separate the water and pepper. Because the audience member does not have soap on their hands, they will not be able to separate the pepper. Then, your child can place his soapy finger into the pepper and it will instantly separate.

    Vanishing Salt Shaker

    • Have your child show off their salt shaker on a table. Then, they should place a cloth over the shaker. The cloth will mold to the shape of the salt shaker. Have your child move the salt shaker around, pretending to make it disappear. While they do this, they should knock the salt shaker off the edge of the table, allowing it to fall on something soft that will not make much noise. The cloth will stay in the shape of the shaker. Your child will lift up the cloth and amaze the audience with the salt shaker having vanished.

    Ice Breath

    • Your child will be able to make it look like he has "ice breath" that can change any water into ice. You will only need a few supplies like a sponge, an ice cube and water. Have your child pour water into a cup that has a sponge and ice cub hidden within. Make sure the sponge is tightly wedged into the cup so that it does not fall out. When your child pours in the water it will absorb into the sponge and only the ice cube will be left. Your child will flip over the cup after blowing into it and only an ice cube will fall out!
