Green Ghost
Green Ghost was a board game with kid-appropriate spooky effects, created in 1965. Up to four players used a plastic board raised on stilts. Under the board were three boxes, each with a locked trapdoor. The boxes contained a mixture of rubber snakes, feathers, and plastic bones as props, and ghost children. One of the ghost kids is "Kelly," also known as the Green Ghost's son. The board was made to look like a spooky town and would glow in the dark. By spinning the green ghost, players knew how far to move their pawns. As you moved, you could use trapdoor keys to collect the ghost children. Once all the ghost children have been collected, they are put on the spinner. Someone spins the Green Ghost one more time and the ghost kid it stops on is "Kelly". Whichever player owned "Kelly" wins the game.
Mystery Date
In 1965, a game for girls called Mystery Date was released. The playing board had a large closet in the center with a wheel attached to the door handle. Under the door were six choices of dates: formal dance, bowling, beach, or a skiing date. There were two other guys under the door, a nerd and a construction worker. Girls wanted to spin the wheel and get a date with any two but the nerd or construction worker. Players moved around the board collecting color-coded cards. When you collected three that formed an outfit, you could spin the door handle to see if the date matched your outfit. If it did, you won the game. If not, the door was closed and play resumed.
Trouble
Trouble is a board game designed for two to four players. Players begin with four pawns each in a start position and win the game by getting all four of your pieces into your home position. In the middle of the board is a dome that pops when pressed, causing the die inside to roll. If you roll a six, you can move out of start. All other numbers and six can be used to advance around the board. If you land on another player, they are in trouble and that piece goes back to start, while you advance. Passing a player is allowed but has no penalty.
Operation
Operation has players take out parts of "Cavity Sam," the shape of a man on the playing board with differently shaped holes in various parts of his body. In each hole are pieces to be removed. Among these pieces are an Adam's apple, broken heart, butterflies in the stomach, funny bone, charley horse, wish bone and bread basket. Players are dealt specialist cards at the beginning of the game. On your turn, draw a doctor card and use a pair of tweezers to try and remove the piece on the card. If the tweezers touch the side of the hole, a buzzer sounds and you lose your turn. If you are successful, you get the money on the card. If you do lose your turn, whichever player has the specialist card for that piece can try and if successful will get double the money. After all the pieces have been removed, the player with the most money wins.
