Ghost and Mystery Games

Ghost and mystery games appeal not only to youngsters, but to adults as well. People of all ages love to get a good scare once in a while and playing these games can be a fun way to do it. Whether it's for Halloween or just to add some color to a party, ghost and mystery games are sure to get a scream out of everyone.
  1. Gross Mystery Food Guessing Game

    • Kids and adults will have to guess what body part is in each bag in this game. Put different foods inside different bags that you cannot see through. Use foods such as mashed banana (mashed brains), peeled grapes (eyes), soggy pretzels (wet bones), cooked spaghetti (intestines) and dried orange peels (dry skin). Have each person stick her hand inside the bag and guess what's in it. The person with the most correct guesses wins the game. It is also advisable to have paper towels ready so that players can clean their hands afterward.

    Halloween Treasure Hunt

    • Hide the treasure in a good hiding place in your yard. Take nine pieces of paper and cut them into the shape of a ghost. On each paper, write down nine clues or riddles that will lead the player to the next ghost and so on until the player finds the treasure. Hide the ghost-shaped paper in hiding places around the yards. Players must find the "ghosts" around the yard in order to reach the treasure. Give the players the first clue or riddle to start the game. A nice riddle could go like this: "Happy Halloween, little witches and warlocks! You will have to look under a slide for clue number 2!"

    Ghost in the Graveyard

    • Wait until its dark to play this game for a more thrilling effect. Assemble the players out in the yard and select a space or object in the yard to use as the group's territory. It could be a wooden bench or the slide, for example. Now select someone from among the group to be the ghost. The group will count to 100 and the ghost must go away and hide somewhere in the yard. After counting, the groups split up and search for the ghost. The first one to spot the ghost yells "Ghost in the graveyard!" All the players must then run toward their territory without being caught or tagged by the ghost. The player who is caught becomes the new ghost.

    Guess the Ghost

    • Assemble at least eight kids into the room. For this game, the more kids the better. Pick out one child to be the "ghost detective" and let him leave the room. From among the remaining kids inside the room, choose one to be the ghost. Drape a white cloth over him to cover his entire body. Now let the other children gather close to him and call back the ghost detective inside the room. Let him survey the room and then let him guess who the ghost is. If he guesses correctly, the ghost becomes the new ghost detective. Having more children play this game will make guessing a lot more difficult.
