Fun & Easy Games to Play With Youth Groups

Help children overcome their natural insecurities and build communication skills by playing fun group games. With little preparation and a few supplies, you can create easy games children will love. Planning the right mix of games will ensure the kids have fun and prevent boredom. Small prizes---such as stickers, pencils and notepads---will encourage the children to play along.
  1. Magic Carpet

    • Divide the players into teams of 10 and give each team a large white sheet or piece of butcher paper. Have the teams spread the paper out on the ground and then stand on the paper or sheet. Make sure the paper or sheet sticks out no more than two foot all the way around (after the players stand on it). Tell the players they are on a magic carpet ride way up in the air and the carpet is upside down. The first team to flip the "magic carpet" over without any players stepping off wins the game. Players must work together by standing very close to one another, while folding the "magic carpet" over so it is on the other side when they finish. For younger players, give them more space around the outside of the sheet, so they have extra space to move around. The more space the players have around the outside of the sheet, the easier it is to flip it over.

    Zip Bong

    • Have the players stand in a circle and select a player to start the game. He must say, "Zip," without showing his teeth. The player to his right must do the same thing. Keep going to the right. When a player says, "bong," the direction changes and starts moving the other way. If a player shows her teeth or says "zip" or "bong" when it is not her turn, she is out of the game. The last player standing wins the game.

    Toe Tag

    • Split the players into pairs and have each pair stand facing each other, while holding hands (both). When you say, "Go," each player must try to tag the other player by tapping on her toes. The first player to tag the other person's toes wins the game. If you have several players, create a tournament. Have winners play winners until you have one final winner.

    Tangled

    • Tell the children to get into groups of 12 and stand in a circle. Have all the players walk toward the middle of the circle and join hands. Each player must grab two different players' hands, so the outcome will resemble a tangled web. Now tell the players they have to untangle without letting go of each others' hands. The players must maneuver through each others' arms and legs. If you have more than one team playing, the team who untangles first wins the game.
