How to Play Stuck in the Mud

"Stuck in the Mud" is a kids' game that is meant to be played outside. No supplies are needed. The only requirements are to be outside, wear shoes suitable for running and have FUN! The idea is that no one will be a stick in the mud while they play Stuck in the Mud. Little adult supervision is needed for this game unless you want to make sure that one person isn't "It" for too long at a time.

Things You'll Need

  • At least 3 children

Instructions

    • 1

      Who's "It?"

Choose someone to be "it." They are Mr. or Ms. Mud.

    • 2

Start the game by gathering all the players around Mr. or Ms. Mud. They hold on to Mud by their fingers. They say: "What happened to you, Ms. Mud, while the spring flowers, they did bud?"

    • 3

Ms. Mud wants to trick the other players. As fast as she can, say:

"I slipped in the crud. I got stuck in the ___ mud!"

Fill the blank in with another word, like sticky, slippery, slimy or any other appropriate word of choice to describe the mud.

    • 4

As soon as Ms. Mud says the word "mud," RUN!!

    • 5

Ms. Mud will chase other players. If she catches one, they are frozen until another player crawls under/through their legs to unfreeze them. A player cannot be frozen while they are crawling under someone else.

    • 6

There are two ways to get someone else to be "It" and start another round of Stuck in the Mud.

Ms. Mud freezes everyone and a new Mr. or Ms. Mud is chosen. This is where adult supervision comes in handy so someone isn't stuck being Mud for a long time.

      OR

When a player is frozen twice (frozen, unfrozen by another player, then frozen again), it's their turn to be Mud.

      Have fun!
