Ideas for Kids Games at School Parties

When organizing a school party for kids, a lot of things need to be kept in mind since controlling a group of children can be a tough job. For school parties, sometimes children need to stay under some specified limits and maintain discipline. Under such circumstances, you are left with very few options for organizing games and fun activities for the kids. To make the party more colorful and fun for the kids, decide on a specific theme, and tell the children to dress up in costumes for the party.
  1. Musical Chairs

    • Musical chairs is an old and traditional game played by kids in school parties. You can arrange chairs in two rows -- one less chair than the number of participants -- facing opposite sides, and play some rhymes on the tape recorder. Kids will run to the tune and sit when the music stops. Start removing chairs one by one after every circle. The kid who gets to sit on the last chair in the end wins.

    Chinese Whisper

    • Chinese whisper is another fun game that kids can play during a school party. Seat the children in a large circle and whisper a sentence in one kid's ear. Ask him to whisper what he understood to the person sitting next to him, and the circle goes on. The last child then repeats the message he heard out loud.

    Catch my Heart

    • If you are having a Valentine-themed party, Catch my Heart can be a fun game for kids. Have the kids sit in a circle and pass on a heart-shaped cushion while background music plays. When the music stops, ask the kids to stop passing the cushion. The person who has the cushion when the music stops is supposed to do anything the crowd asks him to do, which can be sing a song, dance with a teacher or sit-ups.

    Sing a Song

    • Write the names of all the kids on little pieces of paper, fold them and shuffle them in a big bowl. Pass on the bowl as the kids sit in a circle and play the music. When the music stops, whoever has the bowl is supposed to pick a piece of paper from the bowl and read the name written on it out loud. The student whose name is called out is supposed to sing a song.

    Board games

    • Board games such as Monopoly and Scrabble are a perfect way to keep the children occupied along with having quiet fun. Kids can play board games by making groups and compete with each other.

    Apple-Eating Contest

    • Apple-Eating Contest is also a very fun game for kids at school parties. You can hang apples with thread from a higher surface such as sides of a table. Tie the kids' hands, and have them eat the hanging apples without touching them in a limited time span. Whoever eats the most of his apple in the given time is the winner.
