Fun Pokemon Toys for Kids

Pokemon, short for Pocket Monsters, has swept the toy industry since its introduction in 1996. Pokemon is popular with the early elementary school crowd, and there are several Pokemon toys and games. Originating in Japan, Pokemon products have gone worldwide. The basic premise of the series is to collect the many species of monsters to train for battle.
  1. Pokemon Cards

    • Pokemon cards are about the size and shape of a regular deck of playing cards. Using the cards and a single coin, children play while also learning planning, strategy and imagination. Each card contains a picture of a Pokemon creature, its abilities, and directions on what to do depending on the coin flip. A player must take into account what Pokemon cards the other players have and plan accordingly.

    Pokemon for Nintendo DS

    • This is a solo game for the handheld Nintendo video console. However, a Nintendo DS system can link with a Wi-Fi connection, so kids can also play simultaneously. Each new generation of Nintendo Pokemon games comes with the anywhere from 50 to 100 new monsters to play with.

    Pop N Battle Pokeballs

    • Collectible and small enough to keep in a pocket, Pokeballs contain a small version of a Pokemon that can "battle" against other Pokeballs. Approximately 2 inches in diameter, these small plastic balls are designed to pop open when they are thrown---ready to do battle against other Pokeballs.

    Pokedex

    • Pokedex keeps track electronically of all the monsters in a child's collection. This small handheld device organizes the Pokemon by type as well as cross-indexes abilities. Some versions of this toy also "speak" to the child with the Pokemon information. It also tells the child what other Pokemons are available to help win more battles. The Pokedex is basically an electronic encyclopedia.
