Crime Scene Games for Children

Crime scene games help teach children about the importance of gathering and analyzing information and critically thinking to solve challenges. But many crime solving activities involve violence and are targeted toward older audiences. However, there are several kid-friendly games and activities that allow children to play detective and solve crimes.

Clue Jr.
- Clue Jr. "The Case of the Missing Cake" is a kid-friendly version of the popular Clue board game. Except instead of solving a murder (i.e., Colonel Mustard in the kitchen with a wrench), children play detective to see which game character swiped a piece of cake from the kitchen (i.e., who took it, what time they ate it at and what they drank with it). It's meant for ages 5 through 8 and for a minimum of three and a maximum of six players. Like it's parent game, outcomes are different each time the game is played.
Activity Game Books
- Activity crime scene game books can help children learn scientific principles and techniques to solve various challenges. Books like "Crime Scene Investigations: Real-Life Science Activities for the Elementary Grades" feature more than 60 scenarios for elementary school children. It's recommended for children ages 6 through 8 and can be used by teachers or parents as a critical thinking, enjoyable teaching tool. A separate book "Crime Scene Investigations: Real-Life Science Labs" is intended for children ages 8 through 13.
Mystery Party Game
- Mystery party games are ideal activities for a child's birthday party or play date. It's facilitated by a parent, who sets up various labs which each offer a different clue about a suspect who committed a predetermined crime. Children are then divided into groups to explore each of the different crime scene labs. Children will then analyze the evidence in an attempt to solve the crime. The game is intended for children ages 10 to 16.
Cops and Robbers
- Cops and Robbers is a game that doesn't require any special supplies, just participants. It consists of two teams, one team of robbers and one team of cops. The robbers attempt to steal household items and the cops try to arrest them and put them in jail. There are many different variations of the game that children can play based on their age level. Children can also play not knowing who the robbers are. In this mode, they must gather clues and interviews from other game participants to determine who stole a particular item.
