Fun Cat Games for Kids

Kids love all kinds of animals, especially cats. Perhaps children are drawn to the irresistible combination of a warm, fuzzy, purring kitty and the playful nature of these pets. Very young children enjoy imitating kittens. Older kids move to online cat games and board games. Whichever activity kids choose, let them join in on the fun.
  1. Imaginary Cat Games

    • Kids can invent their own cat games at home. With only their imaginations, kids can pretend to be cats and kittens. Some feline actions kids imitate include finding and chasing mice, playing with balls of string, running from dogs and chasing tails. Children can make purring sounds, roll on their backs and pretend to climb trees. Help kids develop their imaginary play with cat makeup. Using nontoxic children's makeup, follow directions for painting kitty eyes, nose and mouth. For cat ears, cut triangular shapes from construction paper and tape the pieces onto a child's headband.

    Internet Cat Games

    • Online cat games are available for kids of all ages. Help young children work on kitty drag puzzles and watch with the child as the disjointed pieces come together to make a cat. Older elementary school kids will enjoy Cat-A-Pong, with three skill levels to challenge players to a ping-pong type game with a cat picture that disappears with each strike. Older elementary and middle school kids enjoy Robocat, a challenging game where kids try to use the kitty's laser eyes to destroy alien bugs.

    Television Show Cat Games

    • Television shows give kids lots of ideas about cat games. Children can watch the show and pretend to be the characters. Sagwa is a Chinese Siamese cat with lots of other kitties for kids to play, including Sagwa's little sister Sheegwa and their older brother Dongwa. The Sagwa website provides a selection of games that combine fun with learning activities. The pictogram games introduce kids to Chinese writing. Exploring the Palace gives kids a chance to participate in palace activities, including decorating the pier and dragon boat.

    Cat Board Games

    • Cat board games combine popular felines with a variety of gaming strategies. Kids aged four and older can play The Cat in the Hat Game. This provides skills in counting and recognizing letters. For active kids, consider the game The Cat in the Hat I Can Do That! Game cards challenge kids to imitate actions from "The Cat in the Hat" book, including jumping and balancing. The Crazy Cat Lady Board Game mimics life, with players trying to collect cats, while running from dogs or getting stuck in trees.
