Horse Race
The "Horse Race" game might be mistitled, as it's really a show jumping game. Players steer their horse around an increasingly difficult obstacle course. The graphics are excellent for a free online game and the controls are straight-forward and easy enough to learn. But mastering the timing of the jumps takes practice. The goal is to pass each level without knocking down any gates and with the fastest time. Scores are recorded on a global leader board.
Henry VIII Joust
This game combines a love of horses with a love of violence, medieval style. Hosted by the Royal Historical Palaces web site (out of the UK), "Henry VIII: Hearts and Heads" is a fun horse jousting game. There are two different modes on the game, a historical mode where jousters represent the king and fight against increasingly difficult opponents, and a head-to-head mode against a friend (via email). The graphics are great and the gameplay is very simple.
The Brave Hussar
"The Brave Hussar" is a very simple game with fairly crude graphics and one button (the up arrow) for control. But what it lacks in glitz it makes up for in sheer addictiveness. The premise is to guide your brave hero -- Hussar -- along cliffs while galloping at full speed on his horse. The game is an endurance test of sorts: you have to survive. When you fall off, your distance is displayed. The goal is to make it the farthest and to compete on the global leader board.
Superstar Jockey
"Superstar Jockey" is another simple game that gets really addictive. It's another one-button game. You need only click your mouse button when the power bar reaches the center to propel your horse along the race track, but the power bar increased in speed each time and getting the timing right gets harder and harder. You have 30 seconds to start and gain 3 second bonus each time you overtake another horse. The goal is to race as long as you can by timing the clicks to perfection.
