Games for Two Children

Children love playing games and they are a good way to pass some time. However, playing games provides more than just a recreational activity, it also provides an opportunity to learn cooperative play, develop self-control, and build self-esteem.
  1. Pick Up Sticks

    • Pick up Sticks is playable in a small area and lets children to use the skills they are learning in math. This game uses multiple colors of sticks, all uniform in size. One player picks up all the sticks in one hand and drops them on a table to scatter them. The goal is to pick up the sticks without moving any of the other sticks. If the player is successful at picking up a stick without moving another, it remains his turn and he goes again. Finish the game by removing all the sticks. Assign point values to the sticks. Blue sticks are 50 points, red sticks are 40 points, green sticks are 25 points and yellow sticks are 10 points. Tally the points and the one with the highest score wins.

    War Card Game

    • War is an exciting card game for two people that can they can play almost anywhere. The object is to win the most tricks through a series of plays. To play, use a standard deck of cards. Play cards according to rank, with aces being the highest. Ignore the suits. Deal all of the cards out with each player having 26. Keep the cards stacked face down and do not peek at them. Both of you will flip your top card face up onto the table. The highest card wins the trick. Upon winning the trick, place the cards next to you. If two played cards are the same, play two more cards until someone wins that hand. Tally your hands. The player with the most tricks wins.

    Batty Bowling

    • In addition to many health benefits, playing outdoors may help children become more creative. Batty bowling is playable on grass or concrete. A parent or older child can help find items that will serve as bowling pins. Items can include a milk carton, plastic vase, empty 2-liter soda bottle, stacked cans, oatmeal carton or an empty laundry detergent bottle. Line the items up as pins. Large balls like soccer or volleyballs are easier for young children to grasp and roll. Older children may find tennis or golf balls more challenging and can keep score.

    Sorry

    • Sorry is a board game that as few as two players can play. The object of the game is to get all four of your pieces from your start to your home. This game consists of four different colored pawns, game board and a deck of numbered cards.
