Children's Fall Games and Activities

Entertain children with fall-themed activities and games to celebrate the cooler temperatures, holidays and changing foliage that fall brings. From creating a fall hand-print wreath to playing a variety of games with pumpkins, your imagination and a few supplies are all you need to get started.
  1. Fall Hand-Print Wreath

    • Give children sheets of brown, orange, red and yellow construction paper. Have them trace both their hands on the sheets of paper and then cut the hands out. For younger children, you can cut the hands out for them. Cut a large ring out of poster board and help the children glue all the fall-colored hand prints on the ring. Cover the entire ring with the hand prints, making sure to place the fingers facing out. Tie a piece of fall-colored ribbon around the ring to hang the wreath up.

    Pumpkin Race

    • Mark a starting line and a finish line about 20 feet apart. Have all the children line up at the starting line and give each child a medium-sized pumpkin. When you say "Go," the children must turn the pumpkins on their side and roll them to the finish line. If the pumpkins turn right side up while the children are rolling them, they must stop and place the pumpkins back on their side before finishing the race. The first child to cross the finish line wins the race.

    Gourd Decorating

    • Purchase several gourds and have each child select a gourd they want to decorate. Place glitter, glue, rhinestones, acrylic paint, permanent markers and paintbrushes on a table for the children to use to decorate their gourds. Award prizes to the funniest, silliest, scariest and best gourds.

    Pumpkin Seed Toss

    • Cut the top off several pumpkins and clean them out. Clean and dry the pumpkin seeds or purchase a bag of pumpkin seeds to use for the game. Scatter the pumpkins on the ground and mark a starting line about 10 feet from the pumpkins, adjusting the distance depending on the ages of the children. Give each child 10 seeds to toss into the pumpkins from the starting line. Award a prize for each pumpkin seed a child lands in the pumpkins.
