Kindergarten Animal Games

Kids like imagining having all kinds of animals as pets, whether it's common choices like dogs, cats or ponies, or not-so-common options like elephants and giraffes. Upon reaching kindergarten, kids start to develop a stronger comprehension of animals. Parents and teachers can engage kindergartners in games that enhance their appreciation and knowledge of different animals and how they live.
  1. Animal Homes

    • Kids place animals in their natural habitat in "Animal Homes," accessible at the Kaboose Funschool site. Have kindergartners click and drag the different animals to their habitats. If kids put an animal in the wrong habitat, the game indicates that the habitat's too cold, too hot, too dry or too wet for the animal.

    Animal Farm Game

    • Kindergarten students can answer questions about farm animals in "Animal Farm Game," accessible at the Sheppard Software site. After clicking animals to hear the sounds they make, have kids listen to animal questions and click their answer. For example, kids will click a sheep when the game asks which animal makes a "bah" sound. Kindergartners can also play games focusing on forest, jungle and ocean animals.

    Animal Match Game

    • Matching the wrong body and head results in funny-looking animals in "Animal Match Game," accessible at the Kinderweb site. Have kids click the body parts that match for lions, tigers, rhinos and polar bears. If students click the wrong body part, the game shows them what that animal would look like with the wrong body or head.

    Animal Spot

    • Kindergartners match distinguishing features to their animal counterparts in "Animal Spot," accessible at Kaboose Funschool. Using the mouse, have kids click and drag horns, patterns and tails to the matching animal. Kids advance to the next level after matching all features to their animals.

    Animal Tracks

    • Using a magnifying glass, kindergarten kids identify footprints in "Animal Tracks," accessible at sites like Kaboose Funschool. Have kids move the mouse over the sets of footprints to take a closer look with the magnifying glass, and click and drag the prints to the matching animal. Players advance to the next level after matching all prints to their animals.

    Photo Safari

    • Kindergartners acts as animal photographers in "Photo Safari," accessible at PBS Kids' Mama Mirabelle site. Have kids use the mouse to point the camera at the safari animals and click to take a picture. After taking a certain amount of pictures, students may rearrange the pictures' order in a photo album.

    Where Do I Live?

    • Kindergarten students act as animals on their way to their habitat in "Where Do I Live?" Write each of the following habitats on one of four pieces of paper: "Desert," "Forest," "Ocean" and "Pond." Tape each paper in one of the classroom's four corners and attach pictures of animals on index cards. Have kids pick the cards from a stack and take turns acting like the animals on their cards. For example, a student who selected a frog would move like a frog and make "ribbit" sounds as he makes his way to the "Pond." Once all the "animals" reach their correct habitat, they return to the card stack and pick another card.

    Where In The World

    • Mama Mirabelle needs kids' help sending her friends back to their natural habitat in "Where in the World," accessible at PBS Kids' Mama Mirabelle site. After the globe stops moving, Mama shows pictures that she took and gives a clue as to the animal friend's habitat. Have students click the picture that matches the animal friend's habitat.
