Camp Group Games for Children

Whether you are planning a church or summer camp, be sure to plan a variety of group games for the children to play. Games keep the kids busy and prevent boredom, as well as help the children build social skills. With some creativity and a few supplies, you can create games the children are eager to play. Award the game winners with small prizes to encourage participation.
  1. Everyone's It

    • Start the game by telling all the players they are "it." Tell the players to scatter around about 6 feet apart. When you say "go," the players must try to tag each other. If someone tags a player, that player must sit down and is out of the game. If two players tag each other at the same time, they must both sit down. The last player standing wins the game.

    Balloon Battleship

    • Divide the players into two groups and give each player a balloon with a string. Each team should have different-colored balloons to help distinguish the players on each team. Players must tie the balloons around their ankles using the string. When you say "battleship," all the players must try to stomp on their opponents' balloons. When a player's balloon busts, he is out of the game. The team with the last balloon inflated wins the game.

    Birdie on a Perch

    • Have all players select a partner. The players must designate one partner to be the birdie and one to be the perch. All the "perches" must stand in a circle. All the "birdies" must form a larger circle around the "perches" and stand across from their partner. Play music and have the "perches" and the "birdies" walk in opposite directions. When the music stops, the "perches" must drop the one knee and the "birdies" must find the partner and sit on her knee. The last person to find her partner is out of the game. If you have a large group, you may want to eliminate the last few players to make it to their "perches." Have an adult help you watch for the last few players to make it. The final eight players left in the game win.

    Find the Flag

    • Split the players into two groups and give each group a roped-off section. Both teams must hide a small hand towel from the other team. The teams have 10 minutes to hide the towel. Have the team switch sides and the first team who finds the towel wins the game. Be sure the teams cannot see each other when hiding the flags. If the roped off sections are close to one another, have the players go inside or in another room until each team can hide the "flag."
