Math Memory
To play math memory you will need to make cards of different sizes---long rectangular cards and square cards. On the rectangular cards, you will write a math problem using pictures; for example, four hearts plus five hearts. On the square cards you will write down the numbers that answer your question cards. To play, the cards are turned over and children must match up the square answer cards with the appropriate rectangular cards. When they find a match, they get to keep the cards. This game can be played by a parent and child, or by two children.
Addition Quick Draw
This is a fun, fast paced game that kids can use to practice addition and multiplication. Remove all the face cards from a deck and deal the cards between two players. Each player flips over the top card on their pile at the same time. The first person to add (or multiply, depending on how you want to play) their cards together and shout the answer wins that hand. The game continues until all the cards are gone. The person with the most cards wins the game.
Math Bingo
Bingo is another fun way to help your child learn various math skills. To play math bingo you will have to create your own bingo cards that have numbers ranging from one to 20. When you call out the questions, say an addition, subtraction or multiplication question that corresponds to that number. So if you draw the letter 10, you can say "B, five multiplied by two." The winner is the first person to get a full row of correct answers. This game works well with more than one child, but can also be played between a child and a parent if the parent can multitask by calling the numbers.
Fifteen
Fifteen is another mathematical card game that uses a regular deck of cards to help children with their addition skills. Each player is dealt three cards from a deck. The players each add up their three cards and reveal them. If the total of their cards adds up to 15, they get to set them aside and keep them. If the total is not 15, the cards are returned to the deck. The game continues for a set period of time and the winner is the person with the most cards. This game can be played with multiple players, or just with a child and parent.
