Abraca-chicken! Trick
In this trick, your child turns a chicken bone into one with a knot in it. You will need a scarf, two identical boxes, two identical chicken bones, a large table with a table cloth over it, a second smaller table in front of the larger table that is only seen by the magician, and vinegar. Soak one chicken bone in vinegar for 24 hours till it looks like string. Tie a knot in it and air dry for another day. Put this knotted bone in one magic box, and place the other bone in the other box. Your child will show his audience the regular bone in its box and use a scarf to switch the boxes from the smaller table onto the larger table, while saying, "Abraca-chicken."
Sugar Cube Trick
Your child magician asks for a volunteer from the audience to choose a number between one and 10. He writes the number on a sugar cube with a pencil and drops it in a glass of water and holds the volunteer's hand over it. He turns the volunteer's hand over and magically the number is written on the volunteer's hand. The trick works by pressing the sugar cube between the thumb and finger, before dropping it in the water, to transfer the pencil mark onto your thumb. After dropping the cube in the glass, the magician will hold the volunteer's hand with his thumb pressed into the volunteer's palm. Thus, the number will be transfered to the volunteer's hand.
Coin Trick
Your child shows her audience an upside down glass and a coin on top of a colored sheet of construction paper. She places the glass over the coin with a scarf covering everything, she will say a magic word and once the scarf is removed, the coin is gone. Prepare the trick by tracing the glass over the same color of construction paper and cut the circle out. Tape it to the glass so it blends in if placed over the other construction paper. The trick is that the taped paper covers the coin so it looks like it has disappeared.
Card Trick
Your magician spills the deck of cards on top of a table. She picks one up with a magic scarf and it disappears. To create the trick, cut a toothpick the same width as the playing card. Push it into the hem of the scarf. When she places the scarf over the cards, she holds the toothpick like she is picking up a card. She isn't really picking anything up, so when she reveals her scarf is empty, it looks like the card disappeared.
