Free Children's Indoor Group Games & Activities

There are many indoor activities for groups of children. These activities are usually quite simple to organize and require little equipment, experience and planning. So if you're at home on a rainy day with a group of kids, trying some games could occupy them for hours.
  1. Animal Jumble

    • Animal Jumble works well with a group of at least three children. Ask each child to think of an animal. Now assign them a body part of that animal. So tell one child to draw the head of whatever animal they thought of and ask another child to draw the legs, and so on. Once they have finished drawing all the parts they were asked to draw, get the kids to cut them out with scissors and tape the body parts together. They will create and entirely new animal and can come up with names for it and decorate it with glitter and coloring pens.

    Observation Game

    • Play the observation game by revealing a table of items to a group of children. These items can be anything from toys to cutlery or vitamin tubs. Allow them to look at the items for 30 seconds. Then cover the items with a large cloth or bed sheet and ask the children to write down all of the items they remember on paper. The one who remembers the most wins. You can keep adding or changing items and reward the winners with some candy or a toy.

    Rosetta Stone game

    • The Rosetta Stone game consists of creating a password or code for a group of children. Write down the entire alphabet on a sheet of paper. Assign each letter with a completely random image such as an arrow or any geometrical shape. Then allow the children 10 minutes to try to memorize the alphabet as a group. Write a sentence with the new symbols and see if the children can decipher the sentence.

    Animated Cartoons

    • Drawing animated cartoons can be an entertaining activity for a group of children. Give each child a small pad of paper. Have them draw an image on the corner of each page with slight movement from one to the next. Stick men work well for creating animated cartoons. Then ask them to flip the pages quickly and they will see a moving image. You can have competitions who can create the best cartoon.
