Barnyard Noises
Walk around and whisper in each preschooler's ear the name of a barnyard animal. Each animal should have two players. Animal ideas include a cow, a pig, a chicken and a dog. When you say "Go," the players have to make the sound of their barnyard animal while looking for the other player making the same sound. Award a small prize to the first two players who find their "barnyard noise" partner.
Guess the Sound
Hide several items behind a screen or sheet so the children cannot see them. Have the children gather in front of the sheet. Make a sound behind the sheet and see if the children can guess the sounds. Items you can use include keys rattling together, a whistle, a spoon tapping a plate, coins tapping together or a bell ringing. Award a prize to each child who guesses a sound correctly.
Balloon Relay Race
Divide the preschoolers into teams of two and give each team an inflated balloon. Do not overinflate the balloon, because this makes it harder for the children to carry. Mark a starting line and a finish line about 25 feet apart. Have the teams line up on the starting line. When you say "Go," the preschoolers must stand back to back, put the balloons between their backs and race to the finish line. If they drop the balloon, they must go back to the starting line. The players cannot use their hands, only their backs, to carry the balloon. The first team across the finish line wins the race.
Prize Fishing
Preschoolers love to win prizes, so play a quick game that everyone will win. Hang a sheet in a door frame and have an adult get behind the sheet with several small prizes. Take a fishing pole and tie a clothespin to the end of the fishing line. Have each preschooler toss the fishing line over the sheet to go "fishing." The adult clips a small prize on the line and tugs the line to inform the player he has a "fish." Everyone is a winner.
