Ruggerland Kids Games

Ruggerland, the official site of the New Zealand Rugby Union, features educational resources for teachers and fun activities for kids to explore their inner "rugger." Kids can register for free at the Ruggerland site and engage in rugby games and activities, as well as a math challenge that tests their ability to solve equations in rapid fashion.
  1. The Big Game

    • Kids must achieve five tries within the allotted time to advance to the next level in "The Big Game." In this Ruggerland game, kids use their mouse to control their character and press the "left" and "right" arrow keys to pass the ball or choose a character. Pressing the left mouse button makes players run faster. The game ends if players do not reach the required number of tries before time runs out.

    Catch the Highball

    • With the coach tossing the balls, kids try catching as many as possible in "Catch the Highball." Kids press the "left" and "right" arrow keys to move, and advance to the next level if they have not dropped three balls before time runs out. The game ends when kids drop three balls.

    Make a Rugger

    • Kids make their own rugger in this Ruggerland activity. Choosing features from categories like "body," "face," "feet," "hair," "item" and "legs," kids click their selections and then click "print" if they want a copy of their custom-made rugger.

    RuggerMaths

    • Taking time away from the rugby aspect of Ruggerland, kids put their math skills to use in RuggerMaths. The game includes four areas (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), each with three levels. Kids may choose any area at which to start, as well as any of the area's three levels. When answering math equations, kids enter their answer and press the "enter" button. If kids answer a question correctly, a green tick appears; if players answer incorrectly, a red cross appears. The faster that kids answer questions, the more points they score. Kids receive a bonus question if they answer all questions in a level correctly. Should kids answer the bonus question correctly, they earn a bonus trophy/treasure.

    Ruggers Quiz

    • Ruggers Quiz tests kids' knowledge of Ruggerland and rugby. For each multiple-choice question, kids click their answer and then move on to the next question. Kids learn their final score after answering 10 questions.

    Ruggers Word Search

    • Kids engage in a classic word-search puzzle in this Ruggerland game. After choosing a rugby-related category, kids search the screen of scrambled letters for words, whether in forward, backward, horizontal, vertical or diagonal directions. Kids click and drag their mouse from the first letter of the word to the last, and then release the mouse. If correct, the game crosses the word off the list.

    Tacklebox Play

    • Good tackle techniques help kids prevent opponents from scoring in the final two minutes of a rugby match in "Tacklebox Play." Kids press the directional arrow keys to move and number keys to tackle from the left, from the back, from the right and front-on. Opponents' size should play a factor when kids decide which type of tackle to attempt. If kids tackle poorly or miss a tackle, opponents score.
