Imagination and Pretend Games
Before the introduction of television and computers, children were content playing pretend games. A baby sitter can ask a child who they would like to pretend to be. Baby sitters can create a proper setting for the imaginative game using simple items found in the house. They can play games with kids, such as pretend restaurant at the kitchen table, or turn the living room into a waiting room for a veterinarian's office. The child can pretend to be a veterinarian who heals a stuffed animal posing as the baby sitter's injured pet.
Music Games
Music inspires children's creativity. Games that incorporate music can get kids excited and involved. Baby sitters can play a game of freeze dance or musical chairs. Baby sitters can also play a musical game called "People Piano," with two or more kids. In this game, the baby sitter assigns each child a different instrument or to sing a note. Then the baby sitter stands behind the children and "plays the people piano" by tapping their shoulders as if they were piano keys.
Educational Games
Educational games keep children entertained while also stimulating their minds. Trivia games that ask children vocabulary, math, science and social studies questions will help strengthen their knowledge.
Classic Games
Games like "Hide and Seek," "Simon Says" or scavenger hunts offer hours of fun, and kids may already be familiar with the game's rules. These games will provide healthy activity for children, and baby sitters can reward them with prizes when the children win or show great effort.
