Fun Crocodile Activities for Kids

While many children may fear the large, green reptile known as a crocodile, many children find crocodiles intriguing. Use your imagination to create fun crocodile activities for kids. From a clothespin crocodile craft to a game of crocodile beanbag toss, restless kids and a few supplies are all you need to get started.

Clothespin Crocodile
- Kids can make a clothespin crocodile using a clothespin, green pipe cleaners, googly eyes, glue, green and pink paint, scissors and a paintbrush. Paint the entire clothespin green, except the two pieces that angle in where the clothespin opens and closes. Paint those with pink paint (for the crocodile's mouth) and allow time to dry. Use the pipe cleaners to make the crocodile's legs by folding the pipe cleaners in half and bending the bottom out to create the feet. Glue the legs on the clothespin. Glue the googly eyes on the end of the clothespin that opens and closes (one on each side). The end of the clothespin you squeeze together is the tail of the crocodile.
Crocodile Beanbag Toss
- Draw a picture of a crocodile's head with its mouth wide open on a large piece of poster board. Glue the board to the bottom of a cardboard box and cut the mouth out. Lean the box against a wall, and kids can try to toss beanbags in the crocodile's mouth. Award a small prize to any player who makes a beanbag in the crocodile's mouth.
Crocodile Bookmark
- Make a crocodile bookmark using green craft foam, glue, googly eyes and a black marker. Cut out a slender rectangle (bookmark-size) out of the craft foam. Cut another rectangle with the same width, but only about 1/4 of the size. Glue the smaller rectangle to the longer rectangle at the very top. This will create the crocodile's head. Glue the googly eyes on the smaller rectangle to make his face. Use the black marker to make markings to resemble a crocodile's nose.
Crocodile Crossing Game
- Have all kids get against a wall, and select one kid to be the crocodile. The "crocodile" stands in the middle of the room. One child asks the crocodile, "Can we cross, crocodile?" He must respond, "Only blond-headed kids can cross." All blond-headed kids try to cross the room without the crocodile tagging them. If the crocodile tags someone, that person is the new crocodile. If he doesn't tag anyone, he must continue calling out which kids can cross. The "crocodile" can say other things such as, "Only brown-eyed girls can cross," or "Only kids wearing a white shirt can cross."
