Pigs Fly!
Test the knowledge of your kindergarten campers with a game called "Pigs Fly!" Have the children surround an adult group leader so that each child has enough room to put his or her arms out to the side without touching anyone else. The leader calls out different types of animals, such as owls, ducks, pigs and sheep. If the animal called out can fly, instruct the children to flap their arms like wings. If the animal called out does not fly, the children should stop flapping their arms. Alternate between flying animals and non-flying animals to keep the attention of the children.
Nature Symphony
Create a nature symphony with your campers. Instruct each child to find an item in the environment that can make noise when hit, blown or rubbed together. Examples of some items include tree twigs, rocks and pine cones. Once each child has his or her instrument selected, arrange the children into a semi- or full-circle orchestra, with an adult conductor in the middle. Allow each child an opportunity to "tune" his or her instrument alone so that each member of the orchestra can hear the noise. The conductor should then choose a simple, well-known tune that the kindergartners can play and lead the orchestra in song. You also may want to let children request songs.
Sardines
Play a game of sardines with campers. This game is a variation of hide and seek. Select one camper as the person who hides from the other campers. The camper hides while the other campers count to a 20 or 50. When the campers are done counting, they call out "coming, ready or not!" and leave separately to find the person who is hiding. As each camper finds the person who is hiding, he or she hides in the same area, until all campers are squeezed into the same hiding spot. For the next round, the first camper to find the one who is hiding takes on the role.
Sack Race
Challenge the children with a competitive game of sack races. Find old pillowcases or burlap sacks that children can use during the race. Each child will climb inside the sack and hold the edges around his or her waist. Mark a starting point and a goal line, and have an adult with a whistle start the race. Each child must try to hop from the starting point to the goal point, then back again to the start line. Campers will enjoy participating in this silly game. Adults are welcome to join in the races, for added enjoyment.
