Great Bible-Based Games for Kids

Christian parents often worry about the entertainment industry and the types of games their children are exposed to. They try to protect their children from excessive violence and other negative influences that conflict with their values. Fortunately, a wide variety of great Bible-based games help parents prevent negative input and promote Bible stories and learning while engaging their children.
  1. Internet Games

    • In the computer age, children learn Internet skills at younger and younger ages. Drawing kids in through the movement and colors, the Superbook website (see "References") takes advantage of this natural interest in kids. The site offers a variety of Christian-themed video games similar to those found on secular sites. Children have the ability to create their own characters and can complete puzzles and enter contests in addition to playing games.

    Computer Games

    • Computer games provide another interactive way for kids to play Bible-based games. Guitar Praise allows kids to play along with their favorite Christian bands and songs. They need to keep up or the song will stop. Along the same lines, Heavenly Harmony Karaoke offers Christian songs for children to lip sync. VeggieTales Dance Dance Dance lets children dance and move to their favorite VeggieTales tunes from the well-known Christian videos.

    Board Games

    • Christian companies sell a variety of Bible-based board games similar to secular games or with a new perspective. For ages 10 and up, Bible Blurt uses scripture definitions based on the New International Version of the Bible. Bibleopoly, based on the board game Monopoly, builds churches instead of hotels and is recommended for ages 8 and up. The Bible Trivia Family Edition game can be played with up to four players or teams ages 7 and older.

    Books

    • Books offer a wonderful resource for games involving action to help get the wiggles out of young bodies. "101 Great Games for Kids" by Jolene L. Roehlkepartain contains interactive games which work great for ages 3 to 12. As a follow-up, Roehlkepartain also authored "101 More Great Games for Kids." "The Encyclopedia of Bible Games for Children's Ministry" by Group Publishing, Colorado is another option, as it includes 175 Bible-based games such as icebreakers and holiday games.
