Kindergarten Age Games

When your child enters kindergarten, he will be joined by other children between the ages of 4 to 6. At this age, children are introduced to a number of games to advance their mobile, social, verbal and reading skills. With two or more kindergarten-age children, you can select from a number of group play, board, card, and pen and paper games.

Tag
- Tag is a group game that requires two or more participants. The more participants you have, the more fun everyone will have. One child will be "it" and the rest of the children participating are "not it." "It" chases the "not it" children around in a designated area. When "it" tags (touches) a "not it," he'll say "tag, you're it." He'll become a "not it" and the person tagged will become "it." The new "it" chases the "not it" children until someone else is tagged to become "it."
Connect Four
- Connect Four, which belongs to the board game category, requires two participants. One child is given black chips and the other is given red chips. The two take turns putting one chip at a time into the open slit top of a panel that has several columns and rows. Each child tries to build up chips in the panel to make four of his colored chips connect. The first one to connect four of his chips in a row says "connect four" and wins.
Memory
- Memory is a card game that can be played with one or more children. A deck of cards is shuffled and laid out on a flat surface with the back side facing up. Each player takes a turn at flipping over two cards to make a match. If there's no match, the cards are flipped over again. When there is a match, the matching cards are placed to the side of the person who matched them. This also wins that person another turn of picking two more cards to match. If there's no match, the next person has a turn at matching two cards. The better memory you have regarding where cards are placed, the greater your chance of winning. The person with the most matched cards at the end wins.
Tic Tac Toe
- Tic Tac Toe is a game that can be played with a pen and paper and requires two participants. On the piece of paper, draw a large "#." One child is "X" and the other child is "O." Each child takes a turns writing his designated symbol in an open section of the "#." When someone has his symbol lined up three in a row, he wins. If the grid is completely filled and no one has won, a new game begins. Take turns on who starts first.
