How to Make Your Own Free Matching Game

A matching game helps your child to strengthen his memory as well as learn to identify simliar objects and organize them into pairs. Matching games are sold at toy and department stores. Don't spend money on a matching game, however, when you can make your own version for free at home by utilizing items you already have. Get your child involved to enjoy not only the game, but its construction. It's an activity you enjoy together.

Things You'll Need

  • Old cereal box
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Printer paper
  • Crayons, markers or colored pencils
  • Glue
  • Plastic zipper bag

Instructions

      Cut the front and back panels from the cereal box using scissors. Measure and mark out 2x2-inch squares on each panel using a ruler and pencil. Mark out a total of 16 squares. Cut the squares out with your scissors.

      Measure and mark 16 2x2-inch squares on a piece of printer paper. Cut out the squares.

      Draw eight different images on eight of the squares using crayons, markers or colored pencils. Then, draw the eight images again on the remaining eight squares so you have eight pairs of images.

      Glue the squares of printer paper onto the printed side of the cardboard squares. Let the squares dry for an hour. Store all the squares in a zipper bag when not in use.
