Scavenger Hunt Ideas for Pre-K Age

Pre-K is such an exciting time for a child's academic and social life. It is during this time they learn how to share and interact with other kids. They are learning colors, shapes and numbers. There are so many great scavenger hunts that nurture the basic skills they're developing.
  1. Springtime/Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt

    • Creating a scavenger hunt focused on springtime and Easter can be adapted as a fun learning tool to teach colors, the nutritional value of eggs, addition and subtraction and the alphabet. To create a scavenger hunt for Easter create a scavenger list with colored pictures of Easter eggs on it. Under each egg write the color of each egg. The children must go through the list and find the colored eggs on the lists. This activity can take place inside or outside if the weather permits.

    Shapes Scananger Hunts

    • Create a scavenger hunt focused on shapes. To create this scavenger hunt cut out solid shapes in different colors. These shapes can include diamond, rectangles, squares, octagons and circles. Create the scavenger list using a colored printer so you can match the colored shapes you created. Place the shapes all around the room so they are slightly hidden. Allow the children to hunt for the shapes and match them up to the scavenger list.

    Alphabet Scavanger Hunt

    • This scavenger hunt can be a daily or even weekly activity to reinforce the letters of the alphabet. Everyday or every week create a scavenger focusing on each letter of letter of the alphabet. Start with the letter "A" and have the P-K students identify all the things in the classroom that starts with the the letter "A". Once the student finds everything or mostly everything on the list host a little show and tell to allow the students talk about what they found.
