How to Make New Cards for Cranium Cariboo

Cranium Cariboo is a fun game where players use matching skills to open doors on the game board hoping to reveal hidden balls underneath. The game cards display letters, numbers, shapes and colors to help young children learn through matching. With any family game, it is inevitable that cards will get bent, torn or lost from use. You can make your own replacement cards, or even create an entirely new set of matching cards to challenge your children and put some new life into an old game.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the existing Cranium Cariboo card on the card stock. Begin by working on one corner of the card stock and lightly trace the card with a pencil. Move the card over and trace it again. Trace as many outlines as you can fit on the card stock, or as many as you need for replacement cards. Leave enough space between traced images to maneuver scissors in between.

    • 2

      Cut out the cards.

    • 3

Draw the alphabet letters, numbers, shapes and colors on the cards free-hand with markers. Use your existing cards as a guideline for what you need for each card. Rather than drawing the images, you can use stickers for the letters, numbers, shapes and colors.

    • 4

Create your own cards by creating new sets of matching pairs. Consider the ages of your children and what types of matching activities they are capable of. Some ideas include opposites, English and Spanish words, states and capitols or math problems with one card depicting the math problem and the second the answer.

    • 5

Make two sets of identical cards -- one for the game board, one for the players.
